EPIC: Empowered Performers in Conversation
The Huntington’s Education Department believes in the power of theatre to serve as a medium for social justice and to amplify voices of community members. EPIC: Empowered Performers in Conversation, provides a forum in which participants cultivate their own creative power and use artistic expression to explore and discuss issues of importance to them; the Education Department maintains future plans to expand cohort offerings in an effort to reach as many people as possible. The Huntington will be running EPIC: Youth in the Fall of 2021; EPIC: Elders is slated to resume next season.

EPIC: Youth
EPIC: Youth is an after-school program which provides students who are interested in playwriting, acting, and directing an opportunity to create their own performance piece. Education staff guide students through research, discussion, writing exercises, ensemble building, actor training and eventually, the creation of an original devised production. The program will culminate in a public performance followed by a post-show with the cast and creative team to enter into a dialogue with audience members about the student’s experiences, as well as the themes and content of the show.
Interested high school students need to register to participate. Class size for EPIC: Youth will not exceed fifteen students and will include students from Boston and the Greater Boston area. Please Note: a minimum of 8 registered students will be required to run this afterschool program. All classes are currently scheduled to be held in person. The Huntington will continue follow all safety guidelines, including switching EPIC: Youth to be remote, if needed.
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to register.

EPIC: Elders
EPIC: Elders maintains EPIC’s original mission of empowering individuals through creative expression and providing a platform for them to tell stories about topics and issues that matter to them. This program happens at the Huntington Avenue YMCA and is open to anyone 50 or older. This branch will also culminate in a performance of the group’s original work.
